ArcBest to Close 10 ABF Service Centers, Retire Panther Brand

July 16, 2026

ArcBest announced a restructuring on July 16 that touches both its less-than-truckload (LTL) network and its expedited business. According to the company’s securities filing, ten ABF Freight service centers in smaller markets will be consolidated into other regional facilities, representing about 1% of the carrier’s total door network. The company is also reducing its workforce by about 2% and expects roughly $40 million in annualized savings.

The brand lineup changes as well. Effective August 1, 2026, MoLo Solutions, the company’s truckload brokerage, and Panther Premium Logistics, its ground expedite business, will operate under the ArcBest name, and the MoLo and Panther brands will be retired. ABF Freight stays as the LTL carrier brand. CEO Seth Runser said in the announcement that the change is meant to give customers a more coordinated experience across the company’s services.

Trucking Dive later reported that the ten service centers are in Plainfield, Connecticut; Bowling Green, Kentucky; Effingham, Illinois; Sullivan, Missouri; Sioux City, Iowa; Watertown, South Dakota; Port Allen, Louisiana; Hattiesburg and Tupelo, Mississippi; and Blountville, Tennessee. A Teamsters spokesperson told the publication that fewer than 50 union employees will move from smaller to larger nearby facilities. None of the ten locations is in California.

What it means for shippers

  • Check the lanes that end in those ten markets. When a small terminal is folded into a larger one, the freight is delivered from farther away. If you ship LTL to customers near any of the listed towns, ask the carrier which service center now covers the ZIP code and whether transit times or delivery days have changed.
  • Update your paperwork for expedited freight. From August 1, shipments that used to move under the Panther name carry the ArcBest name. Routing guides, approved-carrier lists and accounts payable records that still say Panther or MoLo should be updated so invoices are not held up.
  • Keep a second option for urgent loads. Reorganizations take time to settle. For freight that cannot be late, have a backup expedited carrier identified before you need one.
  • Expect more of this across the industry. Carriers adjust terminal networks as freight patterns change. Review rural and small-market delivery points in your network once a year, not only when a closure is announced.

Service details for the affected areas, including which terminal now covers a given ZIP code, are best confirmed directly with the carrier or your broker.
